I hope everyone is having a great week. In no particular order, here are the songs that made my week for September 17th to 23rd, 2022.

Now we’re allowed to drink these daily, and no one can judge us.

Playlist Breakdown

Aluna featuring Jayda G - Mine O’ Mine

I have no idea how this song isn’t bigger, honestly. This song is hella catchy and features two women who are infinitely cooler than I could ever hope to be.

This song is hot fire. Dylan, Dylan, Dylan. Hopefully there’s more where this came from.

For more details on why it’s so good read Rachel Kupfer’s interview of the two on EDM.com.

Diplo featuring Damian Lazarus and Jungle - Don’t be Afraid

As a newly minted world famous music blogger I’m fully aware of the heights of stardom that Jungle have recently risen to. I assume that Jungle currently exist in that exciting space that Kurt Cobain talked about (decades ago! I’m old) where the band is getting big and is being successful but it really all just started for them. I could be wrong about all that - the point is that most things you hear from Jungle are awesome and this collaboration with Diplo is no exception.

People definitely feel ways about Diplo. I honestly didn’t follow any of the country music stuff that he’s doing (I’m not saying it’s bad I’m just not inclined to listen to it), but this song is awesome, and honestly the whole self-titled album it’s off of is great too. Diplo might be a character but I feel like he consistently delivers. I subjected my young family to this on a summer road trip and I was not yelled at by my wife or children. I feel like that speaks to the quality of the album.

Further to that - a deluxe version of the same album flush with remixes also just came out recently. I think that is obviously a marketing ploy (see I’m savvy about such things) whereby they release the album initially, then ask their friends to remix their songs, then spot their friends the cash, and everyone wins. I assume I’ll be asked to include myself in such a remix money-making scheme at some point soon, given my newly found influential nature.

I have no idea who Damian Lazarus is but if he helped contribute to this song he’s cool by me.

Jaenga - Gravity

This song takes a bit to get going but is worth the wait. It’s the journey not the destination.

The first “drop” (again, I’m a young person) comes at around minute 3 of a 5 and a half minute song. You probably don’t have enough patience for this song.

Taska Black - No Paradise

I know it feels like I’m going to immediately put up a photo of Taska Black so we can all evaluate if Taska Black is cooler than me or not. At this point it’s fair to assume that even in the absence of photo evidence anyone reading this probably is assuming he’s cooler than me.

Just to confirm, because this guy is such an uplifting character the lyrics of the song are, in various order:

No paradise.

Are we alive?

Are we alive?

Chasing fake lives.

No paradise

Try to survive

Are we alive?

Always go to the Belgians for a pick me up, everyone knows I always say that.

And last but not least…

Song of the Week 🙌🎵

CHYLD featuring Tennyson - Mess This Up

The intro words that are whispered/mumbled at the start of the song are:

I had no idea I could meet someone so perfect

So this is fundamentally a wedding song. Move over John Legend. This song is great. These guys are crazy talented. I’m obviously showing my age here but I can’t listen to this and not think of Boyz II Men (who are still touring by the way).

Anyway, that’s it for this week.
